To celebrate the Maori New year, and to acknowledge the darkest time of the year turning back towards the light, we invite you to join us for an afternoon and evening at the Riverside Centre next Sunday.

There will be storytelling, making and creating, eating delicious kai and taking in a delightful performance.

***The Matariki constellation is represented as a key feature in the ancient game of Ki-o-Rahi which enacts aspects of the legend of Rahi.
Ki-o-Rahi is undergoing a revival in New Zealand and also growing in popularity as a sport overseas. ***

As part of our Matariki celebration this year there will be an opportunity to hear the legend of Rahi, learn about the game, help create the play equipment and have fun 'reaching for the stars' whilst continuing tradition by playing Ki-o-Rahi with friends & whanau.

2:00-2:30pm Meet at the Riverside Centre. Tanya Corbett will share the legend of Rahi
2:30-4:00pm Creation of game equipment from natural & improvised materials
4:00-4:40pm Ki-o-Rahi game (for all ages & abilities) in the Oval
5:00pm Dinner followed by an aerial silk performance directed by Damara Sylvester.
We will cap off the evening with cake and tea and an outdoor fire.
